FOCUS SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 2:14

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned

We live at a time where we are encouraged to question everything. In as much as that may be important, we must tread with caution when it comes to spiritual things.
The focal scripture for today tells us that the natural man does not receive the things of God because they are spiritually discerned (paraphrased). It is very important to understand that the natural man is the person who relates with God by logic or human reasoning. If any instruction given by God cannot be explained logically or through human understanding, then he stands to question it and he will never obey it.

In Exodus 14:15-16, when the Israelites were stuck between the hosts of Pharaoh and the Red Sea, God’s instruction was for them to go forward. Logically, this did not make any sense. In John 2, at the wedding at Cana in Galilee when they ran out of wine, Jesus told the servants to fill the jar with water. Logically, this did not make any sense either. Proverbs 11:24 says, “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want” (ESV). This is another scripture that does not make any meaning to a natural man because the world system makes us believe that the way to increase is to save and hold tightly to what we have.

As we embark on our journey with God this year 2016, God is saying to us that whoever wants to walk in fullness with Him must do away with logic or human reasoning in relating with him. God is a Spirit, and only the spiritually discerning can receive from Him.
Mary the mother of Jesus sums this up in John 2:5 “Whatever he tells you, do it”.
